We were handed a box last week, our rep Neil said to us “enjoy that bike” and he walked out the shop high five’s flying in the air. Aaron looked at me and said thats a BC in that box......well that box said Altitude on it!! Looking through the hand hole I saw Green and Orange.....I knew what this was!! This was one bike I wanted to get my mitts on!! Canada British Columbia is my favourite place on this earth and riding this bike meant that I was that little bit closer......sort of!!
This Instinct has been to the gym, normally running 140mm travel up front and out back, this particular model is designed for BC back country, this now has 155mm out the back with a slightly different linkage to give the bike more travel, while other models have adjustable geometry chips the BC doesn't have this option as the shock is longer, but still running the same frame as a standard Instinct, its ready to shred out the box!!. Running a 160mm Fox 36’’ fork for added stiffness.

Riding the Instinct BC:
First off I was a little sceptical about climbing this beauty, and my first impressions.....very impressed, really comfortable, with a wheel base of 1206mm I never felt like I needed to shift my weight about to get more out of the bike on a steeper climb, the BC just felt great on most climbs, and on some short sharp steep ones, that said I’m not one for getting those strava points for getting to the top first . This bike is all about getting down fast, being agile and taking on steep decent’s like a DH bike would but having the ability to climb back up!.
When the BC is pointed down hill this is where this machine comes into it’s own!! This bike is fun, poppy, and the most agile 29er I have had the pleasure of riding, it will handle pretty much any type of trail (Not a full on DH track, in the right hands maybe!! We have to be sensible..sometimes haha) saying that it really does love hitting things fast, over roots and off camber sections is where a 29er grips so well with it’s bigger foot print on the ground.
This bike leads me into a world of looking for steep gnarly technical decent’s, and a sudden urge to push back up the same trail or climb round if possible, it’s a “hit that again” type of feel. There’s one thing I would change on this bike and it would be a 30mm rise handle bar and that’s just personal preference.
Another winner is the amount of room in the frame for bottle cage, pump and tools with the use of one of the many tool carrying options now available (one up components, MTB strap on etc)......Bagless riding for the win.
Mud clearance is pretty good even though this has Maxxis 2.4 / 2.5 WT tyres fitted, a very dialled bike that feels great on any ride.
All in all a great bike for any type of ride from a chilled xc ride to a full on day of techy trails and steep decent’s, check out the bike on our website here:https://www.theridersguild.com/rock...
