The Root1 series sees another round and this time for the first time held at the legendary sandpit of dreams that is Roagte Downhill. The park has been put back on the map after a number of years with fears of the site being shut down, then being saved by a local team of legends that didn't want to see the venue go under, the hill was then reborn, then fast forwards a few years and B1KE took hold of the hill along with Dirt Craft Rocket World which has firmly put Rogate back on the map as one of the best UK bike parks to visit!
Race day, the practice was pretty much stop-start with 225 riders on the start list and everyone was super keen to ride the track after walking it.
With a very loose track, tight and twisty with some tricky natural features this track took a lot of riders down, Sam Bowell and the team created a beast of a track that was short but it could take you down within seconds if your not on you're game!
Race run 1:
In his own words: Run 1 was to get out there and see what the track threw at you, considering the track got properly beaten up with some corners in the wooded section looking more like a giant sandpit than a DH track I felt my run was fairly clean posting a time of 1:00.149s .
Jonny the B was on it and looking super smooth with a race time down on paper he knew what was needed to make it count knowing that he's up against the old school legend and all round top human Steve Geall!.
Race run 2:
In his own words: Having learnt from my first run I knew I couldn't push too hard as the track would have thrown you through the tapes in an instant, again a clean run, my top section wasn't as good as run 1 but I made up time through the lower section posting a 59.290s which secured me and my Yeti Cycles SB6T series to third place on the podium.
Jonny coming in hot.
Nipping up on the high line.
Final few corners and it's a sprint to the finish.
Boom! 1st for Steve Geall, 2nd place, Ashely Newbery and 3rd place for Jonny.
Massive thanks to all involved, massive thanks to all our sponsors
